Jiva Sanskar Mela – A Fascinating Rainbow of Multiple Natures

Jiva Public School is an educational institution that deeply embodies the principles of Multiple Natures, Steven Rudolph’s path-breaking framework that helps in identifying and nurturing the special talent in individuals. Founded by Rudolph himself, the school boasts of a culture where each child is encouraged to pursue activities that are in sync with his or her unique abilities.

This year, the school’s annual Sanskar Mela, is being touted as a ‘fascinating rainbow of Multiple Natures’. To be held on November 14, Children’s Day, the event has been organised to give each child the opportunity to showcase his talent by utilising his strengths.

The Mela will encompass a wide range of activities – stalls, games for parents and students, music and dance programmes, stage shows, etc. – that have been designed around the concepts of Multiple Intelligences and Multiple Natures.

Mrs. Devina Nigam, Senior Biology Teacher at Jiva and in-charge of the Sanskar Mela, is all praise for the efforts put in by students and teachers, “Every student, and even the teachers, have been involved in the preparations of the Mela in accordance with his or her strengths. This has not only sped up the work, but also ensured that the activities are carried on smoothly and in the best possible manner.”

Students of the school have been divided into groups on the basis of their strong MIs and MNs, and each group has been allotted tasks that suit their respective strengths. For example, students with strong Administrative and Entrepreneurial Natures have been put into the Event Management Team. They are responsible for organising the entire event, delegating responsibilities to specific groups and getting work accomplished from them. Charu Mathur, a Class XI student and head of Event Management Team, says, “I am deeply obliged for this opportunity given to me to utilise my strong MNs (Administrative, Entrepreneurial) and showcase my talent. My team will be in-charge of the retailing stalls and selling of goods at the Mela. We need to ensure that maximum people visit the stalls and are satisfied with our service. We will also have to find the best ways of making maximum profits with the budgets available to us.”

Students with a high Providing Nature have been assigned to the Customer Service Team. They are responsible for serving the guests and looking after their needs. “My team will be looking after the guests, taking them around the Mela, answering their queries, and ensuring they get all the information they need at the right time,” says Kawaljeet, a Class XI student, who is heading the Customer Service Team. “It is a great opportunity for me to culturalise my skills and explore my public speaking ability,” he adds.

Students with strong Creative Nature and Visual Intelligence have been made responsible for decoration of the stage, stalls, galleries, notice boards, etc. “The creation of charts for decoration was completed three days flat. We could do it because we involved students who had a strong Visual Intelligence. They love this kind of work and were able to finish it way before time. You see, herein lies the fun in banking on kids’ strengths; they love it and we love it too!” concludes Mrs. Nigam, as she proudly displays the results of the hard work put in by the students.
